why is palm oil bad?
Palm Oil is one of the most used oils in the world! 1 In 10 products in the USA have palm oil. Palm Oil is found in 40-50% of household products in countries such as United States, Canada, Australia and England.
20 square miles of pristine rainforest is chopped and burned every day! WWF says, an area the equivalent size of 300 football fields of rainforest is cleared each hour! In 2007 the Guinness World Records said Indonesia had the worst deforestation. By 2020 98% of Indonesia lowland rainforest will be gone!
As well as deforestation this causes air pollution and world wide problems in the future. Indonesia is the third biggest polluter after the USA and China.

The production of Palm Oil also fuels the illegal pet trade. When animal babes become orphaned they are often sent to the illegal pet trade.
If nothing is done orangutans will become extinct in the wild within the next 5-10 years, and Sumatran tigers less than 3 years!
